Fife is of course synonymous with St Andrews – The Home of Golf but for the visitor looking for something different the area provides great golf course options for all budgets and tastes. Fife has a host of wonderful links golf courses such as Lundin Links, Crail, Kingsbarns, the two courses at Fairmont St Andrews Resort but is similarly blessed with some wonderful inland courses such as Ladybank Here’s some ideas for you. Lundin Golf Club Lundin Golf Club , is a superb example of links golf along with a three hole parkland section where the route climbs onto higher ground. Conditions and presentation are always exceptional, linksey swells and firm ground call for particular skills that can only be achieved by playing these truly original golf courses. Lundin Links Ladies Golf Club – Lundin Ladies Golf Club is proudly known (and loved) as the only ladies golf club in Scotland, with over 300 members. However, gentlemen and children are most welcome, and whilst playing the 9 hole James Braid-designed course, the famous Standing Stanes can be admired on the 2nd fairway. Crail Golfing Society Less than twenty minutes from The Lundin Links Hotel, The Crail Golfing Society play over two excellent seaside golf courses laid out on an historic spit of land known as Fifeness. The Balcomie course dates from the 19th century and was designed in part by the legendary Old Tom Morris, who stated ‘there is not a better site for a course in Scotland’. Its fairways are all within sight of the sea, with the coastline coming into play on one third of the course. The Craighead Links, a newer course, overlooks the Isle of May, Bass Rock and the East Lothian coastline and presents a very challenging golf experience. The two courses compliment each other perfectly and represent the epitome of golf by the sea. Leven Links A neighbour to Lundin Links and a short drive from The Lundin Links Hotel is Leven Links. When commencing play over Leven Links the committed golfer should recognise that he or she will be playing, in part, over one of the oldest pieces of golfing ground in the world. From the start of the round the golfer will be conscious of the fairways running along the valleys between the old dunes; it makes for superb definition and a true test of links golf as the slopes and bounces of these natural obstacles come into play throughout the round. Kingsbarns Golf Links Kingsbarns provides a fantastic addition to the rich tradition of links golf in the area, and whilst golfing activity has been taking place on the site for well over 200 years, only relatively recently has the course been developed to its current status. It has previously hosted Final Qualifying for the Open when taking place at nearby St Andrews, as well as featuring along with the Old Course and Carnoustie as part of the annual Dunhill Links Championship. Kingsbarns is within a twenty minute drive of The Old Manor Hotel neighboring Crail’s two courses. Elmwood Golf Club A excellent parkland course only 20 minutes drive from the Hotel a few excellent holes which will test all handicaps. The 17th & 18th holes claim to be the 2 hardest finishing holes in this area. Charleton Golf Club Another super parkland course the front 9 can be tricky but a wise golfer should navigate them easily however the back 9 is increasing difficult especially if the wind is above 15mph, watch out for the Aberdour Golf Club Details to arrive soon
